Karoo Angels are hand-made in a small rural settlement located in the Baviaanskloof, South Africa, bordering the Eastern and Western Cape. The angels are produced by a community run social enterprise that sustains 29 families living in isolated homesteads scattered throughout the barren landscape of the Karoo.
The settlements are isolated with little connection to the outside world and this enterprise has helped to empower the families involved and contribute to the revitalization of the community.
Coming to us from the Baviaans region of South Africa's beautiful Karoo, the hand-crafted angels are produced by small craft cooperatives located within two remote villages. The angel project is their only form of income and the success of the project has contributed a great deal to improving their lives and that of their communities.
